A network of microphilanthropy that supports Middlebury students.

Working with Burlington City Arts and the Burlington International Airport, I will be installing an art exhibit in a vacant space at the airport, which was formerly occupied by a restaurant. MiddSTART funding will help cover the costs of printing, mounting, and installing the photos.

Two years ago one my best friends, a budding designer, asked me to photograph trash bins to provide inspiration for a project he was working on. Though he finished his project within a month, I continued taking photos. I was totally captivated by the seemingly endless forms trash bins can take. After the successful display of a selection of my photos in March, I was inspired to share this intellectual exploration with a larger audience.

I’m working with Burlington City Arts and the Burlington International Airport to install an art exhibit in a vacant space at the airport, which was formerly occupied by a restaurant. MiddSTART funding will help cover the costs of printing, mounting, and installing the photos.

I will connect with donors by sending photos of the exhibit when it is fully installed, a “mid-term” update that details visitor feedback and publicity, and a final communication of thanks when the exhibit closes.

    –the latest from Ryan —

My exhibit at the Burlington Airport has come along quite significantly. I’ve selected all of my photos (63) for the space and
they’ve come back from the printer. I unwrapped them yesterday at the airport – they look great!

I’m going to be installing the photos this Friday and Saturday, and am having an ongoing conversation with the airport folks about
having a “hard opening” early next week! On campus, I’m organizing a small exhibit in the Ross dining hall basement so students will know to look out for this exhibit at the airport when the pass through on Thanksgiving break.

This show will be up starting this weekend for at least six weeks, but likely more!

Attached is a promotional poster that my friend, Gabriel, helped make! Let me know if you have any thoughts/questions!

    Cheers,
    Ryan

    All,

As you can see, I’ve fully fundraised for my project thanks to the generous contributions of several donors! I’m now working with the Burlington Airport to determine how I can use and configure their exhibition space. Meanwhile, I’m perusing my photo collection to select images to group and display most sensibly.

Please reach out if you have any thoughts or questions.

    Cheers,

    Ryan Kim
