The Midd Venture Community (MVC) was created to connect those interested in entrepreneurship and innovation by hosting networking opportunities, project showcases, and a speaker series. We have Roy Heffernan ’78, the COO of Life is good, launching the series on October 12 and are finalizing dates for a Harvard nanotechnology pioneer and an innovative artist in the coming months.

_________

The Midd Venture Community (MVC) is a new student organization created to connect Middlebury students, alumni, and faculty interested in entrepreneurship and innovation by hosting networking opportunities, project showcases, and a speaker series. To us, an entrepreneur is anyone who wants to innovate and create value. This can be anyone from an economics major starting a t-shirt company to an artist finding a new way to deliver, promote, or create their work.

Our goals are to:
- Provide resources to assist Middlebury entrepreneurs in their endeavors
- Organize campus and regional events and conferences to encourage entrepreneurship at Middlebury and in the community
- Connect Middlebury alumni, students, faculty, staff, and community members to encourage networking and communication.
- Publish information concerning entrepreneurial news, events, and opportunities for the Middlebury community
- Maintain a forum for discussion of new business ideas

The speaker series will host innovators from six major sectors: retail, biotech, internet & tech, environment, non-profit, and arts. This is to appeal to a large number of Middlebury students, and to show that innovation can happen anywhere.

The Midd Venture Community is a proud addition to the Project on Creativity and Innovation, and we are hoping to bolster its efforts by bringing in inspirational and informative speakers to speak to the college community.

We will film all the speaker events and post them on our blog in case a donor cannot make it to the speaker events. We take pride in our communication through our blog, Twitter feed, Facebook page, Linkedin group, and emails.

We are seeking funds to cover the expenses for a speaker to come and present each month during the academic year.

You might be interested in hearing about employee ownership. Check out the Beyster Institute and the Foundation for Enterprise Development. Also might get an interesting speaker from the Vermont Employee Ownership Center.
