Exploring Organic Farming: Transitioning into Sustainable Coffee Production in Costa Rica We will be working on a small family-run coffee farm that has transitioned into organic production. We will gain hands-on experience on coffee production and help the farmers establish environmentally sustainable technologies on the plantations. What does it mean to produce coffee in harmony with nature? How do environmentally sustainable activities reconcile with economic viability? These are some of the many questions we will be exploring throughout our trip.

Funding Details

Deadline: Dec 31, 2014
Total needed: $2,000

Twelve Middlebury students will be traveling to Costa Rica over February break as part of a Middlebury Alternative Break (MAlt) trip. MAlt is a student organization that provides student-designed and student-led service trips for Middlebury College students. MAlt offers opportunities for students to participate in strong direct service that seeks to address needs as determined by a local community partner. MAlt is committed to a needs-blind acceptance policy. As a result, we do extensive fundraising to ensure that participants’ financial needs can be met. We all work together to support one another, which is why this fundraiser is so critical to our efforts.

One Response to “MAlt Costa Rica – Exploring Organic Farming”

  1. Andra Pascu says:

    To all donors and supporters,

Thank you so much for helping us pass the $2000 mark! We are grateful to each of you for devoting your time and resources, and putting them towards making our project a reality.

We are, however, looking to still fundraise a bit over $1000 and hope that you will choose to keep on supporting us along the rest of our journey. This page will remain open until our formal deadline of January 31st.

As our departure day quickly approaches, we are busy building on the educational foundation we’ve laid out last semester, and are learning as much as we can, both theoretically and practically, to ensure a valuable experience for both our community partner, and our participants.
