A network of microphilanthropy that supports Middlebury students.

This scholarship fund was established in April 2017 by Michael, Catherine, Shannon, and Thomas Madden in honor of their son and brother, Griffin.

Your generous support will honor Griffin’s memory by giving students with high academic merit and demonstrated financial need the opportunity to pursue their passion for learning as Griffin did his.

Funding Details

Deadline: Dec 31, 2017
Total needed: $20,000

Griffin Sean Madden attended the Kathryn Wasserman Davis School of Russian in 2015 and 2016. He intended to return in pursuit of his master’s in Russian, but lost his life in the Oakland, California, warehouse fire of December, 2016. The fund provides scholarship aid for students at the Davis School of Russian, building greater fluency in Russian language and culture.

In December, we lost our youngest son and brother Griffin Sean Madden at the age of 23 to the Oakland warehouse fire. We are very thankful for the outpouring of support from so many and feel a deep gratitude for the many individuals and institutions who nurtured and enabled Griffin to lead such a fulfilling young life.

Our greatest wish as a family is to sustain Griffin’s commitment to academics, to the arts, and to society by providing opportunities for students to receive the same opportunities that so enriched his life. Please follow the link above to help provide this gift to others.

—Mike, Katy, Shannon, and Thomas
